Elsewhere
This week at the University of Miami, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams assistant coaches left for head coaching positions elsewhere.
On Friday, former men’s assistant coach Michael Huger was announced as the men’s head coach at Bowling Green, and former women’s assistant coach Darrick Gibbs was named the women’s head coach at the University of North Florida.
“I believe Michael Huger is one of the brightest young coaches in the game today. He has done a fantastic job during his eight-year coaching career with me both at George Mason and at Miami. He’s an outstanding X-and-O man, a terrific recruiter, and a real family man. He will bring Bowling Green to new heights,” men’s head coach Jim Larrañaga’s statement read.
Women’s head coach Katie Meier said, “We’re so excited for Coach Gibbs and his family as they achieve their dream. Darrick is going to be an exceptional head coach. He’s prepared, he’s full of integrity, he has a deep concern for the welfare of the student-athletes, and he’s a winner. Everything that we’ve accomplished here at the University of Miami is a direct reflection on Darrick and his loyalty and his amazing work ethic.”
