Zijn periode bij de Memphis Grizzlies was - zeker in het begin - zeer succesvol, en dus had hij - toen hij na wat onenigheid over het beleid - vertrok, vond hij binnen no-time een nieuwe club, de super-ambitieuze Brooklyn Nets, toevalligerwijs ook al een club die ik met extra aandacht volgde - omdat mijn overleden vriend Rob Meurs zich zodanig aan die club verknochte, dat het zijn financiële ondergang, en het begin van zijn einde, werd, in financieel trok hij mij nog een stuk mee ook...
Van de grote plannen die de megarijke nieuwe Russische eigenaar - - bij zijn aantreden uitsprak, "Kampioen binnen vijf jaar!", is helaas weinig terecht gekomen. En nu rollen er (al-)weer een reeks koppen, o.a. die van de sympathieke - en meer dan capabel gebleken - Lionel Hollins, ik zou graag weer eens met hem bijpraten...

5. Giving Up Too Much for Deron Williams
To get Williams from the Jazz in February 2011, King traded Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, a 2011 first-round draft pick that became Enes Kanter, and a 2013 first-round draft pick that became Gorgui Dieng. All the while Williams got hurt and missed 47 games, was re-signed anyway to a big deal and waived with two years bought out by the team. That didn’t go so well.

A three-player move in March 2012, the Nets gave up their 2012 first-round pick – which became Damian Lillard. Wallace was given an extension but only averaged just over 9 points and 5 rebounds in 2 years for the Nets.
3. Brook Lopez’s Extensions
Lopez is arguably the franchise player in Brooklyn at this point. However, it’s been a long journey… of him mostly not playing.
His four-year extension in Summer 2012 was after he only played 5 games due to injuries, and he’d then miss 83 games the next three years – before getting another extension in 2015.

Johnson was an All-Star, yes, but the Nets lost Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar, a 2013 first-round draft pick and a 2017 second-round draft pick… for one guy. This also happened in July 2012.
1. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett (and Jason Terry)
This blockbuster trade in July 2013 saw big name players come to Brooklyn. However, the Nets only managed to get the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference and lost in the second round of the playoffs. Pierce and Terry left after a year, Garnett half a season more.
