Iceland Volcano Eruption Update; Large Eruption Begins, Partially Explosive
29 mei 2024
A large volcanic eruption just began on Iceland's populated Reykjanes peninsula, sending lava flows towards the town of Grindavik. As a fissure nearly 2 miles long erupted, something unusual occurred; ash emissions were created as the likely result of phreatomagmatic explosions in the southern part of the fissure. Lava is currently erupting at a rate of at least 1,100 cubic meters per second, a figure which may be an underestimate.
